The Introduction to R4i SDHC

The very first DS Game Backup Flash card that was compatible with the DSi was the R4i SDHC, and this was manufactured for the market of homebrew. Some time in 2009, during the year’s second quarter, after Nintendo’s release of the DSi, the card was introduced to the market. It had similar functions to that of the former kinds of cards for the DS. This even included a support for the 32GB Micro-SDHC. Through DS Moonshell Media Player user was now able to play various kinds of media, and the updates for the software may now be updated frequently.

During the last quarter of the month of July, this year, 2009, DSi cards were disabled for the mean time, when there was a release of the firmware for DSi. There were a lot cards, like for instance the Acekard 2i, as well as EZFlash, were now capable of patching so that it would now be compatible with the updated firmware. But, unfortunately, it was not possible for the R4i SDHC to do so. Due to this, cards in this form were not used for the console DSi.

In connection to this, the situation made its manufacturers think twice about how the issue may be resolved, and how they would have the means to come up with a card that was compatible.

NDS ROMs - Play With DS Flash

If you want to test the latest Nintendo DS Roms before they are included in romsets head over to the NDS Clean Dumps page.

Nintendo DS Emulator - iDeaS is the first DS emu to run commercial games. It was created by Lino Maglione, the author of the GBA emulator RascalBoy Advance, and is still a work in progress. Currently a Linux port is in the works.

In the weeks of its initial release date in late May, iDeaS became increasingly popular. Droves of people wanted to play the commercial NDS ROM Dumps and with screenshots of iDeaS running Metroid Prime Hunters, it was enough to make any leacher go crazy. But before it was said to be released, Lino announced that it would be further delayed to fix up several issues with the emulator. Then on the 18th of June iDeaS version 1.0.0.5 was released, leaving the general public in awe as they were given a taste of playing the ROM's.

Version 1.0.0.5 is able to load approximately 50% of all commercial ROMs, but only the E3 2005 Zelda Gallery Demo runs perfectly. Every other game that loads, either runs but with glitched graphics or crash at some point.

Currently iDeaS is able to emulate both ARM7 and ARM9 processors, both screens have been emulated and give 3D output, but have graphical limitations. The touch screen has also been emulated to a certain extent as well as the Real Time Clock.
